Decret Tertiare compliance

Decret Tertiare compliance

Often our fellow colleagues and professionals in the energy efficiency sector complain about the lack of commitment or action following the completion of an energy efficiency audit. Most of the time capital projects with a reasonable payback are not taken forward and implemented. This happens for various “good reasons”, which Watts-ON Consultants will discuss in a new post in the coming weeks. This situation generates some frustration in energy efficiency professionals that, sometimes, would like governments to enforce the findings of their reports onto audited sites/Companies and request the implementation of viable energy efficiency projects.
Something similar is happening in France where the Government is enforcing decret tertiaire. This law passed in 2019 and imposes owners of commercial buildings with a floor area of 1000m2 or over to reduce their energy consumption by 60% in 2050 (with intermediate goals) compared to a reference year selected from 2010. To achieve this target, building owners are obliged to implement any energy efficiency/generation project which is technically feasible and with a reasonable payback. Exclusion apply as well, of course.
We are currently supporting one of our clients in achieving compliance with this ambitious and bold legislation. The first step is the submission of the historical energy consumption information by September 2021. If you need support with your Decret Tertiare compliance, we are here to help. W la Republique!
